Marriage Registration

You may apply for this service in case:

  1. When a person has no Surname and wishes to split his "Given Name" as "Given Name" and "Surname".
  2. Addition of "Surname" where a person previously only had "Given Name".

Important Points:

  1. Know your correct jurisdiction before applying, and ensure you apply at the correct Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC). For more details, refer to the "How to Apply" section or "Jurisdiction" section.
  2. Applicants are required to submit a recent copy of Address Proof along with the passport application.
  3. Consular surcharge of OMR 2 shall be levied on all passport services and must be paid along with passport fee and service fee, as specified in the fee details section
  4. Processing of a completed passport application may take up to seven weeks. Applicants will receive periodic SMS alerts during different stages of the application process. Applicants are advised to use the "Track Application" page to know the current status of the application process.
  5. Tatkal facility is not available at Indian Embassy and Consulates.
  6. Applicants coming to the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) for application submission must have a prior appointment, and must visit the ICAC at the designated date and time only, as per the appointment letter. Applicants coming in without an appointment will not be entertained. 
  7. Fees submission at the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) can be made through cash. 
  8. Applicants availing the Postal Service must include the proof of payment along with other documents, as per the checklist. 
  9. Applicants must ensure that they have all the supporting documents, as mentioned in the "Documents Checklist" section. Incomplete applications will not be accepted at the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC)

Procedure for application

  • Register through the Global Passport Seva Online Portal (https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html) (Choose your country of residence, complete the required information and click on "Register" link.
  • Login to the Global Passport Seva Online Portal with the Login ID created in Step 1
  • Select "Type of Service"
  • Fill in the required details in the application form and submit.
  • Click the "Print Application Form" link to print the application details containing Application Reference Number (ARN) and other details
  • Visit the Embassy for the submission of the Passport application along with the applicable fee (paid only in cash) and required original documents for verification (Checklist of the documents required for the different types of services, click here) or you may choose to send your application by post. When applications are sent by post, only online payment made, find the details here and payment proof must be enclosed in the postal correspondence.

Document Checklist

Under the Foreign Marriage Act of 1969, the Embassy of India, Muscat solemnizes/ register marriages outside India, where at least one of the applicants is an Indian and must have residence visa of Oman.

  • Marriage solemnization and registration in Embassy
  • Marriage Registration in Embassy (marriage solemnized in Mosque/ Temple/ Church)

Bridegroom, Bride and three witnesses are required to appear before Marriage Officer for signatures with their original passports at the time of signing the notice form and at the time of solemnization/registration of the Marriage. A copy of the Notice for intended marriage will be displayed on the ICAC notice board for 30 days. After 30 days of notice period, marriage will be solemnized/registered on a fixed date and time.

The following formalities are to be completed before the marriage is solemnized. A Newspaper advertisement is to be given as a first step by the individuals in local English Newspaper as well as English Newspaper in the place of permanent residence indicated in the Passport in India. Newspaper advertisement format is to be attested by Embassy of India, Muscat. The required formats can be downloaded from the link below.

After Newspaper advertisement kindly follow the guidelines below.

  • Newspaper advertisements (India and Oman) in prescribed formats for marriage solemnization
  • Bridegroom & bride’s original passports & complete set of copies (first page, last page and visa page). Minimum 3 months valid Indian Passport with resident visa.
  • Witnesses original passports & complete set of copies (first page, last page and visa page). Minimum 3 months valid Indian passports with resident visa. Witnesses should not be related to each other)
  • Other nationality should attest their documents/NOC and other related documents by their respective Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Copy of Oman Identity Card/ Labour Card (including witnesses)
  • Applicant Request Letter
  • Notice form (2 Sets)
  • Sworn Affidavit Form
  • Declaration Form
  • Declaration of Witnesses (3 Witnesses)
  • Single Photograph (2+2)
  • Joint Photographs – 4 (3”*2”)
  • (Indian Housemaid/Baby sitter visa holders are not allowed to marry while on house-maid visa.)
  • 30 days’ notice period in the Embassy notice board and newspaper advertisement.

Marriage Registration

An affidavit ‘intent to marry’ is to be attested by Embassy of India, Muscat for getting their marriage solemnized in Mosque/Temple/Church.

    • Affidavit form completely filled in as per passport
    • Either bridegroom / bride (Indian national) must be present with original passport and resident card of Oman
    • Passport copies of Bridegroom and Bride
    • Labour card/resident card copy of Oman
