Journalist Visa

Information:

An Indian visa is a stamp or endorsement placed by officials of India on a passport that allows the bearer to visit India. Indian Visas are obtained from the proper embassy or local the consulates of India for the purpose of the visit. "Visit" is further defined as the reason for entry, usually business, tourist or transitory.
Nationals of Nepal and Bhutan are however, exempted from this requirement.

  • Omani nationals, as well as foreign nationals residing in the Sultanate of Oman, are required to submit a visa application using the prescribed form before traveling to India.
  • Foreign nationals visiting India are expected to respect and adhere to the laws of the country. They must refrain from entering into Muttah marriages or engaging in sex tourism. Any involvement in such unlawful or inappropriate activities will be dealt with strictly as per Indian law.
  • When applying for an Indian visa, applicants are requested to disclose details of all passports (current / old) held by them. Failure to do so may result in rejection of their applications.
  • Each visa application is assessed on its individual merits. The Embassy may request additional information, if necessary, during the evaluation process. Please note that while submission of the application and payment of the prescribed fee initiates the process, it does not automatically guarantee visa approval.
  • The acceptance of a visa application does not automatically guarantee grant of a visa. The visa application may be modified or refused by the Indian Embassy at their discretion. Decision of the Embassy on the matter shall be final.
  • An Indian visa is valid from the date of issue of the visa and not from the date of arrival in India.
  • Applicants should submit the application in person. Minors and new born babies to be accompanied with parents.

Important points to be noted during visa application:

  • When applying for a visa, the passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months or more.
  • The passport must have at least three blank pages and should not be mutilated / damaged / tampered in any manner.
  • Visa processing fees are not refundable. Fee should be deposited only after ascertaining that all correct and relevant details are entered in the application form.
  • All Visa applicants including those applying for Tourist and Business Visas are advised to give their biometrics at the time of submission of their applications.
  • It is strongly advised that applicants do not make any travel arrangements before obtaining an Indian visa. The Embassy of India cannot, under any circumstance, be held responsible for visa not issued in time.
  • In case of a Minor child, a consent letter signed by both parents / if one parent, a copy of custody letter from local court is needed.
  • Applicant should be ordinarily resident of Oman.
  • Fees submission at the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) can be made through card/cash
  • Applicants visiting the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) for application submission must have a prior appointment and are required to visit strictly on the date and time specified in their appointment letter. Walk-in applicants without an appointment will not be accommodated.
  • Applicants must ensure that they have all the supporting documents, as mentioned in the "Documents Checklist" section. Incomplete applications will not be accepted at the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC).
  • The application forms should be filled only in English. Applications filled in Arabic will not be accepted. Please fill all columns and do not leave any column blank, otherwise it is liable to be rejected.

Advisory:

  • For travel to India a valid visa along with passport is mandatory. Only categories exempted under bilateral arrangements may not need a visa. For persons of Indian origin (all categories), OCI card is mandatory.
  • Foreigners can visit restricted / prohibited areas only after getting a valid permit as visa alone is not enough to visit such places.
