Follow the below steps in order to apply

1. Create an account (Register yourself) on SGIVS Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. Click Here to register.
2. Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant –www.indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa
3. 2 recent Passport size photos (51mm x 51mm) not older than Three months, no uniform, with white background, DARK DRESS and frontal view. Eyebrows should be visible. Ears, forehead chin to be completely visible. In case of locals wearing qandoura the background should be in light blue. Clarity of the photo is very important - Edited, blurred or unclear photos should not be accepted.
4. Valid Passport in original with clear photocopy. Old passport needs to be carried, in case the valid UAE Resident visa on it along with the photocopy
5. Ensure that you select the appropriate option for the dropdown "Indian Mission/Office" as per your correct jurisdiction. To know your jurisdiction, refer to the "Jurisdiction" section.
6. Print and sign your application
7. Book your appointment online at SGIVS Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website. You can choose a convenient date and time to visit the SGIVS ICAC for your application submission. Click Here to book your appointment online.  
8. Ensure that you have your passport, photographs and all other supporting documents, exactly as per the "Documents Checklist" section.
9. Visit the SGIVS ICAC, as per your jurisdiction. The address and location of the ICAC will be clearly mentioned in the appointment letter. 
10. Kindly ensure you reach the ICAC 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. 
11. Submit your application and deposit your fees at SGIVS ICAC. You can check the fee for this application under the "Fee Details" section.
12. Enroll for Biometrics at SGIVS ICAC (if required)

Student Visa

• Bonafide students enrolling in full-time, on-campus courses at recognized Indian universities or institutions.
• Students joining academic exchange programs approved by regulatory bodies.
• Applicants pursuing studies in Yoga, Vedic culture, Indian classical dance/music, or Buddhist studies.
• Professors or scholars coming for research work in India.
• Individuals applying for internships in Indian companies, educational institutions, NGOs, foreign missions/posts, or foreign government organizations.

Sub Categories of Student Visa:

• S-1: For higher education (including in South Asian University and Nalanda University), provisional student visa, for short term courses and those coming under Student Exchange Program
• S-2: For school education
• S-3: For studies in Yoga, Vedic culture and Indian systems of Music and Dance and Buddhist studies
• S-4: For Theological studies and for Missionary students
• S-5: For Research scholar, visiting Research faculty, research scholar on bilateral exchange program, members of Botanical, Scientific, Anthropological, etc. expeditions
• S-6: For those coming for internship in India (including those coming under French VIE programmed)
• S-1X/S-3X/S-5X: For dependents of those coming under S-1 and S-3 and S-5 visas.

Student Visa (S-6) – Detailed Guidelines

Registration Requirement

• Foreign nationals granted a Student Visa for more than 6 months must register with the FRRO/FRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office / Foreigners Registration Office) that has jurisdiction over their place of stay.
• This registration must be completed within 14 days of arrival in India.

Who Can Apply for a Student Visa (S-6)?

• Bonafide students pursuing on-campus, full-time structured courses at recognized Indian universities, colleges, or educational institutions.
• Individuals taking part in recognized academic exchange programs.
• Applicants planning to pursue research work in India, for a period of up to three years.
• Foreigners intending to study Yoga, Vedic culture, Indian classical music/dance, or Buddhist studies, at reputed institutions.

Internship Eligibility Under Student Visa

• Student Visa (S-6) is also applicable to those coming to India for internships at:
• Indian companies
• Educational institutions
• NGOs
• Foreign Missions or Posts in India
• Foreign government organizations
• Indian/foreign media agencies
• The internship must begin either:
• During the course of study, or
• Within two years after completing graduation or post-graduation.
• Salary Requirement:
• If interning at an Indian company, a minimum salary of ₹3,60,000 per annum is required.
• There is no salary limit for internships at educational institutions or NGOs.
• Important Note: Interns cannot take up regular employment in India immediately after completing their internship. Also, all earnings during the internship are subject to Indian Income Tax laws.

Student Visa for Visiting Faculty

• Foreign professors, teachers, and scholars who are invited as visiting faculty by Indian central universities or publicly funded state universities are eligible for a Student Visa.

Visa for Scientific/Botanical/Anthropological Expeditions

• A Student Visa can also be granted for members of international scientific or research expeditions, subject to approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
• Applications for such visas must be submitted at least 4 months in advance, with full details including:
• Names and bio-data of team members
• Purpose and locations to be visited in India
• Duration of stay
• Funding and sponsoring organization details
• Indian institutional collaborator (if any)
• Expeditions may be required to include a liaison officer from the Indian government.
• Export of collected specimens will need prior approval from the Ministry of Science & Technology or relevant agencies.
• Expeditions are not permitted to enter protected, restricted, or tribal areas without special permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Important points to be noted during visa application:

Additional Documents Required

1. Additional Form (Download Form) & Documents for Passport holders other than Oman nationals including proof of valid Oman Residence Permit / Visa.
• Letter of admission from a recognized Indian educational institution with duration of the course.
• Invitation letter from the company/organization/agency based in India sponsoring the applicant for the internship program.
• A letter from the concerned institute in Oman.
• Proof of registration of the company/organization in India.
• A letter of financial support/ Bank statement from parent/guardian.
• No objection letter from Parents to study abroad for applicants below 18 years(Minor applicant), letter from the Boarding School confirming boarding facility or proof of parent having valid work visa.

For Higher Education;

• Letter of admission from a recognised Indian educational institution with duration of the course.
• A letter of financial support / bank statement from parent / guardian.
• No objection letter from parents along with the passport copies of parents and Birth Certificate of the applicant to study abroad for applicants below 18 years.

For School Education:

• Letter of admission from a recognized Indian educational institution with duration of the course.
• A letter of financial support / bank statement from parent / guardian.
• No objection letter from parents along with the passport copies of parents and Birth Certificate of the applicant to study abroad for applicants below 18 years.
• If the child is minor and the education if for one year or more, the application must be supported by a contract for boarding facility with authentic school in India or the proof of legal custodian/guardian in India.

For studies in Yoga, Vedic culture and Indian systems of Music and Dance and Buddhist studies;

• Invitation letter from a recognized Indian Institution.
• Registration Certificate of the concerned Indian Institution.
• Proof of sufficient funds for expenses during stay in India – last 03 months bank statement.

For Theological studies and for Missionary students;

• Letter of admission from a recognized Indian educational institution with duration of the course.
• A letter of financial support / bank statement from parent / guardian.
• No objection letter from parents along with the passport copies of parents and Birth Certificate of the applicant to study abroad for applicants below 18 years.
• If the child is minor and the education if for one year or more, the application must be supported by a contract for boarding facility with authentic school in India or the proof of legal custodian/guardian in India.

For Research Work;

• Original Invitation Letter from the Indian institution.
• Duly filled APPENDIX XVll(A)  https://indianembassyberlin.gov.in/pdf/Scan1form_june21_2024.pdf with the stamp and seal of the inviting institute in India.
• In cases which involve research on subjects related to the foreigner’s own country, the research scholar will be required to furnish a brief synopsis of the research proposal in about 150 words and giving full justification (including the benefit he / she would get) for doing the research in India.

For those coming for internship in India (including those coming under French VIE program);

• A copy of the Internship Contract including the remuneration.
• Invitation letter from the Indian Institution/organization.
